Studio Rates

Please note: Due to the VAT increase in January 2011, rates for our facility-based packages have also had to rise.

• Standard rate per day - £195.00
• 3-day-deal - £500.00
• 5-day-deal - £850.00

A standard day is 8hrs, from 10am to 6pm.

Left Ear Sound is currently partnering with Warehouse Studios to provide our facility-based recordings. If the packages above don't quite fit your needs, speak to us and we will be happy to provide a quote that fits your needs and budget better.

Location Recordings

• Standard rate per day - £150.00
• 3-day-deal - £350.00
• 5-day-deal - £500.00

A standard day is 8hrs and includes setup/teardown time

Unlike our facility-based recordings, a location recording can be more flexible and tailored to suit your needs. Quotes can be provided for half-day or hourly rates on request, and need not be tied to a "working day". Left Ear Sound can make a recording pretty much anywhere with electricity - your living room or rehearsal room, a concert hall or gig venue.

Mixing

Left Ear Sound is happy to provide mixes of material pre-recorded elsewhere. Since requirements vary from project to project, we prefer to quote on an individual basis, however our hourly rate for mixing falls into two categories:

• Standard rate - £25 per hour. This is an attended mix session at Warehouse Studios and takes full advantage of their facilities and equipment. Estimate a song to take 3-4 hours, or up to 3 songs maximum per full day.
• Budget rate - £15 per hour. A fully digital, ITB (In The Box) mix session which will typically not be attended by the band/artist, but which has a much quicker turnaround. Estimate for a song to take around 2-3 hours.

Live Sound Engineering

Left Ear Sound has loads of experience running the sound at small-to-medium sized gigs. We can provide an engineer to run your equipment, or provide a full PA hire service in conjunction with Flash Harry Sound. All events can be catered for, from pub gigs to classical recitals. Rates vary depending on the size and requirements of the job, so please contact us for a quote.

Remixing

Left Ear Sound have remixed a number of tracks, most notably for Dutch artist Fourteen-26 and Oxford electronica artist Thin Green Candles. We have a quirky style which often results in radically different twists on compositions. If you want us to mangle your precious song into unrecognisable shapes, drop us a line and we'll talk!

Compilations & Editing

If you require a compilation CD of a number of tracks for playback during an event (weddings, school productions, dance events, concert or theatre background music etc), simply provide us with the source material (CD's, cassette tapes, vinyl) and we will transfer and compile the CD for you to your specifications. We will ensure all levels are consistent, the material flows correctly and there's no nasty excess noise. This service generally takes 3-4 times the length of the desired program material (so a 1hr compilation will take some 4hrs to complete) and is charged at an hourly rate of £15, with a minimum 3 hour charge.

Stuff we don't do:

• Mastering - We're a tracking and mixing house, not a mastering house, so we leave mastering to those who are already set up for it. See our Info Pages section on Mastering for reasons why: Mastering and why it's best left to the pros.
• Duplication/replication - You don't want to sit there cutting out and burning 100 copies of your new CD, and neither do we. Fortunately there are plenty of people out there who offer excellent duplication services, and we can point in you in their direction for quotes.
• Artwork - Just because we're rubbish at drawing. We know some people who aren't rubbish at it though, so if you need a hand on the artwork or photography side, we can point you in their direction.
• Promotion/distribution - We've got a full-time job doing the recording side of things, so we simply don't have time to set up a distribution network or promote your band. There's plenty of ways you can do it yourself or go the old-fashioned route and try to get signed. As far as we're concerned though, once the recording leaves our hands, we're out of the picture.
