Mixing
Mixing is the final stage of your time with Left Ear Sound, and where we pull everything together and create the perfect balance to bring the most from your song.
- If we've done our work right, everything should already be sounding pretty good straight after the Tracking stage, but mixing is where we tweak those sounds to their best and make them sit nicely together.
- Mixing is highly individual to the song and to the band's needs and desired sounds. There are commonly used tools (EQ, panning, compression, reverbs, delays) but when and how much they are used will be dependent on what the song requires to bring the most from its component parts.
- Each song will demand it's own approach to the mix, so each mix will be started from scratch and the mix built around the instruments and structures used in the song. However when recording 3 or 4 songs in a session you will often find that common sounds are used across many of the songs, so certain instruments (vocals, drums and bass in particular) will sound similar in each mix.
- The end result will be the perfect mix of your song (or songs), with everything balanced and sounding sweet.
- Once we're happy with how it all sounds, a final stereo mix of each song will be captured.
Mixing is not the final stage of making your CD though, and you may be surprised when you hear what eventually comes off the desk. Read on to find out why:
